Over the last three years, I have been actively engaging with the developer and our Administration to work towards achieving Century Park’s full potential, which is a thriving world-class Transit Oriented Development, where thousands will eventually be able to live, all within walking distance of an LRT Station.

A building permit for Central Tower, which is a proposed tower located near the existing condos that will offer units for rent, has been issued, and the City and developer are working on another development application for the site. Additionally, a new Master Plan for the site has been created, which is the purpose of tonight’s meeting.

As mentioned, Century Park represents an incredible opportunity to create something truly special, and the reality is that one day, the current parking lot, in its current form, will no longer exist. That being said, I have been active in creating a strategy to address this, which includes:

1. Working to create a permanent mix parking facility on the city-owned parcel of land in the northwest section of Century Park

2. Creating options for enhanced and express bus service to Century Park from the surrounding neighbourhoods as ~40% of the Park & Ride users originate from neighbourhoods surrounding Century Park

3. Developing a Park & Ride in Heritage Valley at Ellerslie Road & 127 Street as ~35% of the Park & Ride users originate from neighbourhoods south of the Henday and municipalities south of Edmonton.


I am committed to working with Ermineskin and the surrounding communities throughout this rezoning process; as this process unfolds, I will be working closely with the Ermineskin Community League and its Housing Committee to gain a better understanding of the community’s desires and concerns. Additionally, I would like you to provide me with your thoughts, ideas and concerns surrounding this opportunity.

    +5km between LRT stations is unheard of for LRT lines. Look at Calgary’s new proposed Green Line for example.

    LRT station at 40 Ave must still be considered as it would be a solution for up to 20% of park n’ ride users while also encouraging development of infill in mature neighbourhoods.
