The events of the world and the situation in Syria have been weighing heavily on my mind the last few weeks. We're also moving into a season when many of us celebrate with families and friends and enjoy in the bounty that we have here in Canada.
This year I’ll be hosting a hybrid holiday party/fundraiser, to benefit those who will be resettling in Edmonton as our new neighbours in the coming months.
Please come join me for some light refreshments and snacks at Parkallen Restaurant (7018 109 St NW) on December 8th from 4:00pm-8:00pm as we celebrate a great year and contribute to Catholic Social Services, one of the main organizations facilitating the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Edmonton.
We are anticipating that Edmonton will receive between 1200-1500 refugees from now until February, and many of those people will be coming here with very little. Particularly for those refugees that are government-sponsored, donations to organizations like Catholic Social Services can go a long way to buying things like clothes, furniture, and school books.
If you would like to make a non-financial contribution, you can check out this site or this one to contribute furniture, clothes, and more to help make refugees comfortable as they settle in our City.
I look forward to seeing you all December 8, when we celebrate all we’ve accomplished as a community, and look forward to all we hope to accomplish in the coming year. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to Ann Gordon at email@example.com by December 4th.
